ZED Picks Glossary

Last updated August 18, 2025

Quick Start

Welcome to ZED Picks, the mobile-first, pick-and-play racing game. This glossary translates the app’s race screen and betting terms into plain English so you can make faster, smarter picks.

Odds & Probability

Decimal Odds (e.g., 2.15x, 1.50x)

The multiplier on your stake if your pick wins. Decimal odds show total return, which includes your original stake.

  • Example: $10 × 2.15x = $21.50 total ($11.50 profit)
  • Example: $10 × 1.50x = $15.00 total ($5.00 profit)

Implied Probability

A quick estimate of a horse’s chance to win from its odds.

  • Formula (decimal odds): implied probability = 1 / odds
  • In percent: implied probability (%) = (1 / odds) × 100

Rule of thumb

  • Lower odds → higher probability, smaller payout (often the favorite)
  • Higher odds → lower probability, bigger payout (often a long shot)

Labels & UI

  • Hot Pick — The horse with the highest modeled win probability in that race (typically the lowest odds).
  • Lock / Entry Cutoff — The last moment to submit or edit your pick before the race starts. After lock, the slip is set.
  • Live — The race is underway; new entries for that race are closed.

Wallet & Currencies

  • ZCoin — Free‑to‑play currency for practice, learning the app, and friendly competition. No cash‑out value.
  • ZCash — Real‑rewards mode. Play for withdrawable prizes subject to eligibility, verification (KYC where required), and location rules.
  • Balance — You’ll see separate balances for ZCoin and ZCash. Winnings credit back to the balance you used to enter.

Picks & Payouts

  • Pick / Single — One selection on one race. Payout = stake × odds if it wins.
  • Multi / Parlay (coming soon) — Combine multiple legs into one slip for a bigger multiplier. All legs must win to cash.
  • Leg — An individual selection within a multi/parlay slip.
  • Payout Multiplier — The decimal odds applied to your stake.
  • Stake — The amount you place on a pick.

Pro tip: Decimal odds in ZED Picks already include your stake in the total return.

Racing Basics (Context)

  • Field — The set of horses in a race.
  • Gate / Post — The starting slot for a horse. Fun context for sharps; you don’t need to act on it.
